We are pleased (and a little excited) to announce that 'Phase 1' renovation work will start next month on the Alexander Haus. This will include investigations by paint and wood experts to review the existing state of the house and to develop a plan in conjunction with the City of Potsdam Denkmal (monument) authority.
Then, carpenters and builders who are experts in monument protection will carry out measures that will provide emergency protection to the house, including roof repairs. They will then remove non-historic elements (such as the temporary wall to the rear of the house and the small 1960s extension on the front of the house). It is hoped that phase 1 work to be completed by March 2017.
Once Phase 1 has been completed, the architect and builders will develop a plan for Phase 2, which will include restoration of the building to its 1920s condition, including installation of a kitchen, bathroom, heating and electricity, as well as external landscaping.
We will post pictures and updates as the work develops.
