Brief prayers were sung by Rabbi Stuart Altshuler of Belsize Square Synagogue in London, the congregation co-founded by the Alexander family who built the lake house. .. Nach dem Anzünden der Schabbat-Kerzen und dem Segen über Ein und Brot spricht Rabbi Stuart Altshuler von der Belsize Square Synagogue in London ein kurzes Gebet. MONUMENT DAY 2018
On 9 September 2018, the Alexander Haus was open for the annual Monument Day. More than 250 people visited on a glorious day.
The house was open from 12pm to 6pm. Updates were provided about the history of the house and the renovation works.
At 1pm, we remembered our dear friend and monument architect Andreas Potthoff who oversaw the lake house renovations from the very beginning until his tragic death in the summer of 2018.

TAG DES OFFENEN DENKMALS 2018
Am 9. September 2018 war das Alexander Haus zum Tag des Offenen Denkmals öffnen. Das Haus war von 12-18 Uhr geöffnet. Es wurde Erläuterungen zur Geschichte und der Restaurierung des Sommerhauses geben. Um 13 Uhr haben wir unseres Freundes und Architekten Andreas Potthoff gedacht, der die Instandsetzung des Sommerhauses von Anfang an bis zu seinem tragischen Unfalltod im Sommer 2018 geleitet hatte.

The Alexander Haus deeply mourns Andreas Potthoff, who died form a terrible accident with his boat on 1 July 2018.
Andreas, who has led the restoration works for the Lake House from the very beginning, was not only an excellent architect and highly knowledgable and sensitive monument expert, but also a great supporter of the Alexander Haus and its aims of remembrance, reconciliation, dialogue and education. Even more important, we have lost in Andreas a truly warm, open and compassionate friend. Andreas was always most interested in the human aspect of architecture and this shows in his work.
As Alexander Haus, we remain deeply grateful for his immense contributions in making the Lake House and its surrounding once again a place of beauty, peace and encounter of people. We know that we cannot fill his place, but we will do everything we can to continue and complete his work on the Alexander Haus and will honour his legacy.
Our thoughts and prayers in these troubled days are with Andreas' family.

Das Alexander Haus trauert zutiefst um Andreas Potthoff, der am 1. Juli 2018 mit seinem Boot tödlich verunglückt ist.
Andreas, der die Restaurierung des Sommerhauses vom ersten Moment begleitet hat, war nicht nur ein ausgezeichneter Architekt und kenntnisreicher und sensibler Denkmalspezialist, sondern ebenso ein großartiger Unterstützer des Alexander Hauses und seiner Ideale von Erinnerung, Versöhnung, Dialog und Bildung. Vor allem aber haben wir in Andreas einen überaus warmherzigen, offenen und leidenschaftlichen Freund verloren. Andreas war immer am meisten an den menschlichen Aspekten der Architektur interessiert und das zeigt sich in seiner Arbeit.
Als Alexander Haus sind wir zutiefst dankbar für seinen immensen Beitrag, das Sommerhaus und seine Umgebung wieder zu einem Ort der Schönheit, des Friedens und der Begegnung von Menschen zu machen. Wir wissen, dass wir die Lücke nicht füllen können, die er hinterlässt, aber wir werden alles tun, um seine Arbeit am Alexander Haus fortzusetzen und zu vollenden und werden sein Werk stets bewahren.
Unsere Gedanken und Gebete in diesen schwierigen Tagen sind bei Andreas' Familie.

Motto: „Get out of your living-rooms, put on your sports shoes and join the Groß Glienicke Soccer Fun Tournament!”
Young and old, girls and boys, old timers and more recently arrived age 14 to 99 to meet in parallel to the World Cup to sign up for a unique soccer tournament. Before kick-off, the lot determines who forms a team. It’s the way the newly formed teams play together that will count as much as the goals scored. The tournament takes place as a prelude to the Village Festival, where in the afternoon the award ceremony will take place. The SV Babelsberg 03 rewards participants with tickets to one of its games.
For more than a year, the Community Dialogue Programme of the Alexander-Haus e.V. has been using individual and social history to bring people together and to strengthen social cohesion. All activities are grouped around questions of identity and togetherness. The players will be invited to comment on their experiences and own soccer stories. Amanda Harding has designed the programme. She is a board member. After a series of spoken dialogue events and "Art and Food" gatherings, the football tournament is a first experience combining sport and dialogue. Jung und Alt, Männer und Frauen, Alteingesessene und kürzlich Hinzugezogene von 14 bis 99 Jahren treffen sich parallel zur WM zu einem einzigartigen Fußball-Turnier: Vor Anpfiff bestimmt das Los, wer miteinander ein Team bildet. Die Art und Weise, wie die neuen Teams zusammenspielen, zählt ebenso wie die erzielten Tore. Die Spielenden erhalten die Möglichkeit, sich zu ihren Erlebnissen und persönlichen Fußball-Geschichten zu äußern. Das Turnier ist ein Vorspiel zum Dorffest, wo am Nachmittag die Siegerehrung stattfindet. Der SV Babelsberg 03 belohnt die Teilnehmer in Form von Eintrittskarten zu einem seiner Spiele.
Das Community Dialogue Programm des Alexander-Haus e.V. setzt seit über einem Jahr individuelle und gesellschaftliche Geschichte dafür ein, Menschen zusammen zu bringen und den sozialen Zusammenhalt zu stärken. Im Zentrum stehen Fragen der Identität und des Miteinander. Amanda Harding hat das Programm konzipiert. Sie ist im Vorstand des Vereins. Nach einer Gesprächsreihe und mehreren Begegnungen bei „Kunst und Kochen“ bildet das Fußball-Turnier die erste Erfahrung mit der Kombination aus einer sportlichen Disziplin und Dialog. Renovations continue at the Lake House.
New water, sewer, electric and heat systems have been installed. Paint colours have been tested inside, and various shades of oil have been tested on the exterior wooden walls.
Next the chimneys have to be rebuilt and the floors put back....
All very exciting!
Last weekend (1-3 June) the Alexander Haus helped facilitate a youth seminar and 'happening' at the Lake House.
In association with UK-German Connections (a collaboration between the UK and German governments), 25 students from the UK and 25 students from Germany participated in a thee-day seminar: 'finding our place in history'.
They visited the house and the Berlin Wall memorial at Groß Glienicke See, took part in a Shabbat celebration, and shared stories and thoughtful reflections on "The House By The Lake" and the history of the 20th Century.
It was a deeply moving and inspiring weekend - a melting pot of history, identity and reconciliation.

Pupils of the tenth, eleventh and twelfth years of the Tiergarten Gymnasium in Berlin discussed with the British journalist and author Thomas Harding and the member of parliament for the constituency Berlin-Mitte. Eva Högl.
The reason for the event was a cooperation between the school and the Alexanderhaus. In the future, the school will give our students various opportunities for social engagement and intercultural encounters.

On 24 November, the Alexander Haus hosted a "Winterfest" with our friends in the community and at the local refugee shelter.
Motivated by the inspiring monthly encounters at the Community Dialogue meetings, the so called “Sunday Group” grew increasingly curious to find out more about the diverse traditions of celebrating. The participants therefore decided to take the lead and host a first event of their own at the local refugee shelter.
With a lovely spirit that reminded of the warm welcoming energy in 2015, an organizing team of four women from the shelter and about 10 Groß Glienicke based activists was formed. Together they managed to get the funding -thanks again to “Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe Potsdam e.V.”. They baked, cooked and decorated the rooms. A volunteer collected presents enabling local kids to finally hand over nicely decorated personalized parcels to the 28 children living at the shelter.
Together we enjoyed a great variety of music reaching from secular winter songs, each one advent and Azerbaijani peace song, traditional European brass music as well as Arabic or oriental dance music and rap.
A heartwarming event shared by 120 guests of all ages.

Von den Begegnungen der monatlichen Gemeinschafts-Dialoge inspiriert und erfüllt von Neugierde auf die verschiedenen Traditionen des Feierns, ergriffen die Teilnehmenden der sogenannten „Sonntagsgruppe“ die Initiative. Am 24. November realisierten sie eine erste eigene Veranstaltung: das Winterfest in der GU Seeburger Chaussee.
Mit einem herzlichen Elan, der an die willkommen heißende Energie von 2015 erinnerte, bildeten vier Frauen aus der Unterkunft und rund 10 Groß-Glienickerinnen und Groß Glienicker ein Team. Gemeinsam organisierten sie die Finanzierung – noch einmal danke an "Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe Potsdam e.V." Sie kochten, backten und schmückten die Räume. Eine Freiwillige warb Geschenke ein, so dass Kinder aus dem Ort den 28 in der Unterkunft lebenden Kindern hübsch verpackte, persönlich gewidmete Päckchen übergeben konnten.
Die Musik variierte von weltlichen Winter-, einem Advents- und einem aserbaidschanischen Friedenslied, traditioneller europäischer Blasmusik, arabischer oder orientalischer Tanzmusik sowie Rap.
Ein herzerwärmendes Fest mit 120 Gästen jeden Alters.
